Alvanian Marshal of Mixed Heritage
Born in the rugged wilderness of the land the outsiders call Alvania, all that young Cassius ever knew of his father were the two things the Diocene soldier left for him- his name, and his short sword bearing the stamp of the Orthodoxy Guard, an elite Diocene crusading force.
Raised among the people called Elves, Cassius knew he was not truly part of the tribe, and he also knew well that he would never be accepted in his father’s land across the great sea. Fortunately, even a land as diverse and unruly as Alvania has a place for those who don’t fit in.
It was in the Marshal service as a Deputy that Cassius found his place. Honing his skills in stealth and intelligence gathering, Cassius was on his way to an impressive track record with the Marshals.
Cassius was an outstanding Deputy, but he was surprised to be pressed into the service of the High Court as a member of the secretive and elite Nighthawks, a guerrilla unit tasked with preserving Alvanian independence. The Nighthawks strike behind enemy lines where it hurts most, destroying vital supplies, ruining rations and munitions, and occasionally assassinating key enemy personnel.
Cassius was brought on for the special and sensitive mission of aiding the Nighthawks in the rescue of a nephew of the Sultan of Akbatustambol, the Free City at the mouth of the sea. The young prince had been kidnapped by brigands while journeying in Alvania, and the elite deputies spent days stalking and observing their prey. When the rescue came, it was swift and deadly, in the signature style of the Nighthawks. The Sultan was impressed and relieved by the return of his nephew, and offered the frontier nation a Consulate in the Free City. Cassius was selected to be a part of the new diplomat’s security force, although he hides his true purpose by acting as a record keeper and librarian at the embassy.
